BRITISH RAIL

Unlike during my time with London Country, I did not have the opportunity to take pictures whilst at work.  Luckily, an old friend, John Law, has stepped into the breach, and very kindly allowed me to use a few of his photos to illustrate these pages.

John Law,

4-CEP 1520 at London Bridge

4-CEP 1520 approaches London Bridge from Charing Cross. 1986.  This would have been one of the units which worked the 1925 Dover Hoverspeed train from time to time

4-cep1561 at Shakespeare Cliff tunnel

4-CEP 1561 leads a train out of Dover approaching Shakespeare Cliff Tunnel. 1988. The route taken by the 1925 Dover Hoverspeed train.

5159 at Hayes

4-EPB 5159 at Hayes (Kent). 1980.  A typical suburban terminus and working. Frequently visited during the course of my work.

5223 Denmark Hill 1984

4-EPB 5223 at Denmark Hill on the "83 Squadron" - the Holborn Viaduct to Sevenoaks service, another of my regular runs.

5321 Bromley North 1976

4-EPB 5321 at Bromley North in 1976.  The Bromley "Popper" was a Grove Park Depot speciality - there and back while the kettle boiled.

5340 Holborn 1983

54-EPB 5430 at Holborn Viaduct. 1984.  The unhurried and peaceful air of Holborn Viaduct was why it was always my favourite London terminal.

slade green 1981

Former Tyneside 2-EPB 7785 at Slade Green depot 1981.  Slade Green was one of those places which couldn't be avoided for a South East Division guard.

4-VEP 7860 at Grove Park shed in 1977.

Grove Park shed in 1976.  Although this was before I worked there, nothing had changed in the interim.
